This
great looking table was replicated from one
owned by John McDonald of Hadley, Pennsylvania.
Johns discerning eye discovered a slightly
damaged table at an estate sale. The table had
been discarded and relegated to the basement
after serving the family for four generations.
John brought it to the attention of the
auctioneer and redeemed it for the sum of five
dollars. What John had bought for the sum of
five dollars was a 1720 1740 Pennsylvania
worktable, which was appraised in 1999 at $3,500
dollars.
What
makes this table visibly different from
other worktables are the legs. Most
worktables have a turned leg; these legs are
splayed on the inside, which gives this
table a very pleasing look.
As with many work tables of this period,
the table tops were removable for use
elsewhere. The tabletops were secured to the
base by four removable wooden pins.
With our replica we have added a second
position that allows the top to slid forward
for use as a desk or computer table.
