This is a replica of our antique cherry tea table
that was made in Connecticut circa1740 to 1780.
The table made its way to a family from
Sag-Harbor Long Island, Where it remained in their
possession for four generations.
Early in 2007 we had the opportunity to acquire this
fine table, adding it to our Heritage collection.
Tripod tea tables were introduced in England
during the 1730’s.
And where most popular in the Chippendale
period.
The Tea Table found its way to the colonies where it
was fashionable with American cabinetmakers, which
often made the table in mahogany
and cherry.
This tea table has the simple but elegant
lines that early Connecticut pieces were know for.
With finely shape cabriole legs, and a slipper foot,
as well as a balanced turned pedestal that supports
a round tilt top, this table maintains a very
pleasing look.
Tilt top
tables were made so that they could tilt to a
vertical position, allowing the table to be stored
in a corner of the room when not in use.
Table measurements:
32 inches round
27 inches high
